Triangle Oktoberfest Sets Sights on Raising $100,000 for Charity

August 6, 2018, Cary, N.C. – Thanks again to its partnership with the Town of Cary, the Apex Sunrise and Cary MacGregor Rotary Clubs are off and running with planning efforts for the 5th Annual Triangle Oktoberfest at Cary’s Booth Amphitheatre on Friday, October 19, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday, October 20, from noon to 9 p.m. With the success of last year’s event generating $70,000 for charity, the Triangle Oktoberfest Foundation Board has set a goal of raising $100,000 this year.

“Our vision began in 2013, while watching Germany win the World Cup, as an opportunity to create an authentic German festival and, more importantly, to serve as a great way to support local and international charities,” said Craig Duerr, chair (burgermeister) for this year’s event.  With the motto “Service above Self” as motivation, the two Rotary Clubs have collaborated with each other to raise over $150,000 to date in charitable contributions to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of NC, AlzNC, Western Wake Ministries, U.S. Veterans Corps, and many others.

“We started in a parking lot at MacGregor Village and, thanks to the hard work from so many volunteers and generous sponsorships, the event has grown into a vibrant festival atmosphere at Cary’s Booth Amphitheatre,” said Duerr.  The event now attracts over 3,000 attendees from across North Carolina and Germany who come to enjoy original Bavarian beers, seasonal and local beers, and traditional food and fare.

Triangle Oktoberfest organizers are excited to announce GCF Global’s sponsorship of the KinderPlatz (kid play area) which continues its focus on being a family-friendly event. They are also excited to announce The Butcher’s Market’s sponsorship of the Brats, which will be fire-grilled by Rotarians this year as many have become accustomed to for the BBQ at the Apex Sunrise’s Pig Fest in downtown Apex.  Oktoberfest welcomes back Capital Club 16 and Annelore’s German Bakery to once again offer a great menu of German cuisine and some truly unique German pastries and treats.

And, of course, the most exciting Wiener Dog Races in North Carolina will be back along with the signature Mass Krug Stemmen (stein hoist) and HammerSchlagen (nail driving) competitions.
